ONE MILLION PEOPLE LOST THEIR JOBS IN NOVEMBER & DECEMBER...YOU ONLY NEED ONE!!!

With all the overwhelming numbers and disappointing news - it is easy to get discouraged about a job search in this climate.

Frankly, this is the worst market I have seen in 16 years! After 9/11...at least there were still jobs being offered...it was just that nobody wanted to work in NYC.

It is very important to remember...YOU ONLY NEED ONE JOB! You just need ONE EMPLOYER to extend an offer to have a new job. So...now it becomes a NUMBERS game...even more so than in a "NORMAL" search.

Slowly but surely...companies have thinned out their mid-level staff that are not directly tied to generating revenue. My client base is comprised of some of the most prestigious and historically SUCCESSFUL organizations. Methodically...these companies have slowed their hiring to the point of a FREEZE. Due to the fact that my clients' success is directly tied to CONSUMER SPENDING...a fearful consumer NOT spending money impacts them immediately.

Like in 2000 and the DOT.COM BUST...companies are NOT replacing employees who are terminated or leave on their own. Instead, these organizations are opting to stay "SHORT-STAFFED" and make due without additional MARKETING, ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT, CLIENT SERVICE, HUMAN RESOURCES & ADVERTISING professionals.

The key to marketing yourself at this time lies in an individual's ability to demonstrate that they bring "ADDED VALUE". Employers are still looking to meet "SPECIALISTS"...however...it is more important than ever to present a package that screams...FLEXIBILITY, A VARIED SKILL-SET, A MNOTIVATIONAL-UPBEAT ATTITUDE...and whenever possible an ability to contribute to the PROFITIBILITY of a DEPARTMENT/DIVISION.

Although PERMANENT FULL TIME ROLES are few and far between...there does exist the opportunity to enter an organization on a TEMPORARY or PROJECT basis and prove your value. As a result, MATERNITY & VACATION COVERAGES, TIME-SENSITIVE PROJECTS & SEASONAL INITIATIVES provide a platform for job-seekers to...in essence have a PAID INTERVIEW. It is in this capacity that you can infiltrate an organization & by lending your assistance & performing ABOVE expectations - that you can capture attention & motivate HIRING MANAGERS to make an arguement to SENIOR DECISION MAKERS that retaining your services long term are in the best interest of the company. so...treat ANY/ALL TEMP opportunities as your RARE CHANCE to shine - cultivate relationships & ultimately SELL YOURSELF.

Job seekers need to ADAPT. This can be done by CUSTOMIZING YOUR RESUME...initially. Highlight those skills - accomplishments & attributes that speak directly to the specific need of the employer you are targeting. YOU NEED TO SELL WHAT EMPLOYERS ARE BUYING!!! Understand that what you may view as "ADDED VALUE" or "A RICH SKILL-SET" may not been perceived as such by the person reading your resume. Demonstrate clearly...in the body of your resume how YOU impacted the work environments you have come from in a positive manner...BE SPECIFIC!!!

If you do get the opportunity to interview or temp...make sure that you BROADCAST a VERY UPBEAT/POSITIVE VIBE!!! Even though it is miserable out there...you cannot allow that discouragement to be seen.

SO...REMEMBER...ALL YOU NEED IS ONE JOB! THIS SHOULD BE YOUR MANTRA OF SORTS. DESPITE ALL THESE NEGATIVE - CATASTROPHIC EMPLOYMENT NUMBERS...ALL YOU NEED IS ONE PERSON OR ONE COMPANY TO INVEST IN YOU!!!

KEEP HUNTING - KEEP NETWORKING - KEEP A POSITIVE OUTLOOK...THIS IS WHAT WILL DISTINGUISH YOU FROM THE HUNDREDS OF DOWNTROTTEN CANDIDATES YOU ARE COMPETING AGAINST!!!

***YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SEVERAL VERSIONS OF YOUR RESUME THAT HIGHLIGHT DIFFERENT/UNIQUE QUALIFCATIONS/ATTRIBUTES...
